    BAKING WITH SOURDOUGH
    Several thousand years ago, people discovered the process of sourdough fermentation and acidified flours through fermentation. Thus making it possible to brew beer or bake bread and even to feed tens of thousands of workers building the great pyramids in Ancient Egypt.

    Today, baking with sourdough is making somewhat of a comeback. In this Starter Kit, we provide you with the tools and ancient know-how for you to bake a similar sourdough that fuelled the Egyptian's pyramid building of yesteryear!

    Sourdough acts as a leavening agent to loosen dough making it bakeable without having to add any extra yeast at all. Flour, water, and salt are all you need to bring your dough to life.

    Be patient with your sourdough, and you will not only be rewarded with a strong proof and long shelf life. To a greater degree, over time a myriad of beneficial microorganisms will multiply, developing intriguing aromas, exciting flavors and improving the digestibility of the bread.

    EVERYTHING YOU NEED IN ONE PLACE

    1. The sourdough culture
      The sourdough ferment consists of the simplest of ingredients: Rye flour, water and salt. Without preservatives, flavor enhancers and stabilizers, it's 100% vegan and of the highest organic quality. Our rye ferment contains millions upon millions of tiny microorganisms ready to ferment your dough for use in deliciously fluffy bakes, breads and rolls.
    2. The fermentation jar with lid
      Of course, your sourdough starter will a home where it has enough room to rise. To that end, our set includes a high quality glass jar. With the included stainless lid, the jar can be tightly sealed and stored in the refrigerator.
    3. The dough scraper
      The flexible dough scraper makes retrieving your dough a breeze. It adapts wonderfully to the shape of whichever bowl you're using and refuses to leave any dough behind. The sturdy metal core and tapered edges makes it easy to divide the dough and shape the loaf.
    4. The proofing basket
      The wicker oval proofing basket shapes your loaf evenly, supports the dough during proofing and gives your bread a beautiful pattern on its crust. It comes with a linen fabric cover for extra sticky doughs and long proofing times. Use the basket to make a 500 gram loaf of wonderfully fresh bread.
    5. The baker's lame
      With this elegant, razor-sharp tool, cutting into bread dough is easier than you might think. The handcrafted wooden handle sits comfortably in the palm of your hand. A few well-placed cuts on the surface of your loaf-to-be will prevent the crust from cracking sideways in the oven and your dough will have space to rise upwards. Get creative with scoring the surface of your dough and create your own custom baker's signature.
    6. The fairment bread bag
      The fairment bread bag is made of 100% tightly woven linen and is therefore breathable, antibacterial, ecological and on top of that looks super chic. Your finished bread, rolls or bakes will feel right at home.
