KEFIR - the drink of the centenarians
Milk kefir, also known as "milk champagne" or "Tibetan mushroom", is a drink that has its roots in Asia, most likely Russia.
Kefir is a refreshing, probiotic drink with a thick creamy consistency and a sour, refreshing and slightly yeasty taste. It is produced through fermenting milk with the help of our kefir grains. These are nothing more than a natural composition of yeasts and bacteria in a symbiotic community. These small microorganisms metabolize certain components of the milk, making it not only more digestible, but also creamy and delicious.
The taste of kefir is reminiscent of Ayran or buttermilk. The naturally occurring carbonic acid lends a sparkling, effervescent dimension to the taste.
Making kefir yourself pays off after only a short time, as the kefir culture will continuously multiply with each batch. In addition, your own milk kefir tastes much fresher and is much cheaper and livelier than ready-made drinks from the supermarket shelf.
